Almost half of the Northern part of Saskatchewan is covered by boreal forest ecosystems. Forests are a central part of its economy and landscape for many Saskatchewan communities. The wealth of forest resources provides some of the greatest potential for growth in Saskatchewan North East region. In spite of recent news about forest fires and mill shutdowns, Saskatchewan forests will play an increasingly important role in the province’s economy in a long term. With its potential for sustainable growth of the forest sector, Saskatchewan is in a very competitive position among other Canadian provinces.
